About

History

Shell Road Pavilion was officially opened on Sunday 16th March, 2016 with a large number of members from the four participating clubs and the general community in attendance. This long awaited facility was very much needed as football cricket and netball are large and growing clubs that were operating for decades from some of the worst facilities in the region, while soccer operated with no facilities at all for many years.  The completion of this facility has been described as ‘The jewel in the crown’ of the fantastic Shell Rd community and sports precinct, also surrounded by two primary schools (Star of the Sea and Surfside Waves PS) and Bellarine Secondary Junior Campus and the fabulous Boorai Centre for children and families.

This fantastic new sports and community facility was funded by:

  • Federal money – $3.5 million – championed by our Member for Corangamite, Sarah Henderson and
  • City of Greater Geelong (CoGG) – $2.5 million – championed by long serving Bellarine Ward councillor, Jan Farrell
  • State money – $160,000 ($100k Liberal Party via candidate Ron Nelson and $60k Labor Party through Member for Bellarine, Lisa Neville) was also received for additional fit out of the Shell Road Reserve with scoreboard, nets and coaches boxes.

The development of this facility can be seen from 1st earthworks to completion on this short video clip.

Board of Management

As a multi user sports and community facility, it was deemed best for its management to operate under an independent Board structure, called Shell Road Pavilion Board of Management Incorporated.  ABN 78 603 705 142. This Board currently has 4 independent executive members appointed by CoGG, plus a representative from each of the 4 participating sports clubs.

Currently these Board members are:

Vice President: Kevin Nolan

Secretary: Dave Ricardo

Treasurer: Tahlia Sinnot

Ocean Grove Football and Netball Club: Simon Jarvis (Football rep) and Cam Quinten (Netball rep)

Surfside Waves Soccer Club: Craig Wright

Ocean Grove Cricket Club: James Nessell
